"Everyday on Film" by Haziq Farhan with Leica Malaysia

It was a quiet Saturday spent commuting by MRT. Kuala Lumpur is currently celebrating ASEAN Week, an initiative to strengthen cultural, economic, and social ties among Southeast Asian nations. As part of the celebration, the city encourages everyone to use public transport rather than drive, especially with the number of events happening throughout the week. So, I did just that—embracing the ride, the stillness, and the view from the train window.

Despite the full schedule and the typical sweltering heat of Kuala Lumpur, moving around on foot and by train felt like part of the experience. The highlight of my day was an intimate exhibition by Leica Malaysia, showcasing the works of emerging film photographer Haziq Farhan.

Titled “Everyday on Film”, the exhibition features Haziq’s personal selection of images captured on his Leica M6, a mix of street, travel, and quiet moments of everyday life from rural towns of Pakistan to modern Melbourne and back to the familiar streets of Kuala Lumpur. His photos have a certain warmth to them, like still life vignettes in a world that rarely slows down. Some are spontaneous, others feel thoughtfully composed. But in every frame, there’s soul.

It’s hard not to notice the presence of Nadine Jasmine, his wife, who’s also a photographer in her own right. She plays a key role—not just as a subject, but as someone deeply intertwined in his creative pursuit. You can feel that connection through the images. Her presence grounds the work with a kind of emotional clarity.

The event was personal, mostly attended by fellow Leica enthusiasts. It’s clear many in the room weren’t just casual fans, but loyal believers in the film medium. Leica, after all, has carved a space of its own, both in terms of quality and, let’s be honest, pricing. But there’s a reason people stick with it.
