Immerso, Ericeira, Portugal – A Coastal Retreat in the Hills

Immerso, Ericeira, Portugal – A Coastal Retreat in the Hills

This was my first time visiting Ericeira, and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. I was just excited to go somewhere new. I decided to get there by bus from Lisbon, which I caught from a small stop next to the main highway. The ride took about an hour and a half, winding through old roads and stopping at small stations in quiet Portuguese towns. It was actually a really nice way to arrive—slow, scenic, and peaceful.

When I got to the bus station in Ericeira, the landscape completely shifted. Suddenly, I was surrounded by long stretches of beach and lush green views. The mood felt totally different—calm and open. From there, I took a Bolt ride (cheaper than Uber!) to Immerso.

The moment I arrived, the hotel stood out. Immerso sits quietly in the hills near São Lourenço Beach, with a strong, almost industrial look—concrete lines, minimalist shapes—but it still feels warm and welcoming. The design blends into the land like it was always meant to be there.

The hotel was designed by Portuguese architect Tiago Silva Dias, together with one of the founders, Alexandra Almeida d’Eça, and designer Bárbara Neto. The buildings are arranged in four low blocks that look like they’re emerging from the hillside. Inside, everything feels soft and natural—wood, earthy colors, and curved shapes. The room felt especially cozy and homey with its natural hues. The bed is placed right in front of a huge window pane that overlooks the beach. I ended up spending the evening there with a cup of tea, just watching the sunset from the bed. There’s also a wide balcony if you want to sit outside, but it was too cold for me—so I stayed snuggled under the blanket instead.

Immerso is known as a “destination hotel,” designed for a relaxed and elegant experience—and it really lives up to that. It’s nestled quietly in a coastal village, surrounded by nature and silence. The next morning, I decided to explore and walk around the nearby villages. The views were peaceful and untouched—although I did get chased by a small village dog! I guess I surprised it with my presence. Still, it didn’t stop me from enjoying the calmness of the place.

I also had the opportunity to try out Spa Ericeira, the wellness experience the hotel has to offer, which includes a spa, gym, and yoga. I chose the spa for a relaxation massage, and it was truly the best decision ever. It was just what I needed after a day of walking and exploring. The atmosphere was serene and calming, a perfect complement to the peaceful setting of the hotel.

All in all, Immerso was a beautiful surprise. It’s quiet, thoughtful, and a lovely place to slow down. I came with no expectations and left with a full heart.
