Memory's Landscape: A Collaborative Exhibition by R+, GDP Architects and Aesop.

There is a quiet alchemy in the way we remember places. A room is never just four walls; a landscape is rarely just a view. Instead, our minds anchor moments to the tangible world through a delicate tapestry of sensory inputs—chief among them, the ephemeral nature of scent.
Opening at the GDP Campus in Kuala Lumpur, ‘Memory’s Landscape’ is a collaborative exhibition that explores this exact intersection. Co-curated by R+ and GDP Architects, with support from the scent and skincare houses at Aesop, the multisensory showcase offers a rare space for quiet contemplation on how we archive our lives.

Scent as a Vessel for Time
While an aroma is inherently fleeting, it possesses a unique ability to become almost physical when tied to a specific geography or moment. It acts as both a container and a catalyst for the past. 'Memory’s Landscape' leans heavily into this concept, challenging visitors to navigate a series of 20 distinct works, each dedicated to a different terrain.
The pieces are mindfully selected from the Steve Wong Art Collection—a remarkable body of work built over three decades by one of Malaysia’s most dedicated collectors. Through the brushstrokes and perspectives of 19 local and international artists, including Chang Fee Ming, Faizal Suhif, and Andy Dewantoro, the exhibition frames the dialogue between what is permanent and what is fleeting.

A Thoughtful Solitude
The physical layout of the exhibition is a deliberate journey. Visitors do not merely look at art; they wander through a carefully structured physical arrangement where objets d'art meet an intentional, curated aromatic landscape.
To deepen the experience, the curators have woven a thread of four central questions throughout the space. These prompts invite visitors to pause, look beyond the frame, and ponder how a simple scene can capture, hold, and eventually return a memory to us. For the Musotrees community—who appreciate design, architecture, and the beauty of slowing down—this exhibition is a gentle reminder of how deeply we are connected to the spaces we inhabit.
