Above Us, Steorra: Aēsop’s quiet tribute to the night sky

An Eau de Parfum that looks to the night sky for quiet inspiration.

There’s a particular calm that comes with standing beneath a sky full of stars. For a moment, city lights and daily distractions fade, and you find yourself gazing upward, caught between wonder and curiosity. That feeling sits at the heart of Aēsop’s latest fragrance, Above Us, Steorra.

The name is borrowed from Old English, simply meaning “stars.” It’s a fitting choice for a perfume that tries to mirror the experience of watching the night sky—steady, yet alive with movement.

The composition was created with Céline Barel, Aēsop’s long-time fragrance collaborator. Instead of beginning with a formula, the process started with poetry, photographs, and fragments of amber. From these abstract sparks came the idea of a “celestial amber”—something that glows with warmth but also carries a streak of the unexpected.

On the skin, the fragrance opens with a lively mix of bergamot, cardamom, and elemi—bright, peppery notes that feel like a flicker across the dark. The middle deepens into resins and woods, with labdanum, frankincense, and cypriol adding a textured warmth. By the time it settles, the cardamom returns with a spicier edge, softened by cinnamon and a hint of vanilla bean. It lingers quietly, less like a heavy blanket of scent and more like a trail of light fading gently from view.

What makes Steorra interesting is not only its balance of spice and amber, but the way it frames fragrance as an act of pause. It feels less about making a statement and more about creating a private space—like stepping outside for a breath of night air.

At a time when life often feels crowded and overlit, Steorra leans into quietness. It’s not a fragrance that shouts, but one that encourages you to look up, reflect, and perhaps trust, if only briefly, in the unknown.

The Fable
A star, steady in the sky
Thought it was the only light
Solitary in its glow
But then a fire cut the dark
Disrupting certainties
A glimmer of possibility
And so it took the chance
Ignited with an amber glow
Illuminating the unknown
Charting its own course
Seeking its own story
Propelled by a question:
Shall we trust in the unknown?
